Project Details
NMR-Spectrometer 300 MHz for NMR on liquids
Subject Area
Process Engineering, Technical Chemistry
Term
Funded in 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 437145736
In the instrumental facility Pro2NMR at KIT with its origin in a DFG funding, NMR methods are developed and used mainly in the context of engineering questions. Liquid and solid state NMR as well as relaxation and diffusion are explored, finally MRI is to be named. 200 MHz and 400 MHz spectrometers are available and completely booked. They are equipped with large magnetic field gradients needed for MRI, therefore a dedicated liquid NMR is asked for in this proposal. Currently addressed questions are aging of oils, diffusion of guest molecules in polymeric networks and of polymers in solution. Crystallization and paramagnetic relaxation enhancement are actual research topics, too. The planned hardware extension will reduce the need of reorganization and conversion of the instruments leading to a significantly enhanced usability and to a significantly reduced number of errors and repair issues. Long term measurements will be possible again using dedicated hard- and software.
