Additively manufactured structures deviate from as-designed structures in geometry, topology, and material properties. The consequences of such deviations upon the structural behaviour of a part can be significant and is known as effect of defect. While for traditional production processes, sufficient experience exists to estimate the effect of defect, this is not the case in additive manufacturing. Sub-project C01 will develop comprehensive digital qualification procedures that can effectively evaluate the effect of defect in products of additive manufacturing processes on global and local scales. The proposed computational methods will enable the prediction of limit loads for as-built metal- and concrete-based structures. Special emphasis is placed on validating the developed techniques.
