For the history of the middle-Dnieper, upp Dnieper and Polesia regions, the period from the 3rd century BC until 1st century AD. is undoubtedly of great importance. It is characterized in a special way by cultural and economic changes, as well as probably migratory movements in this area. As a consequence of these processes, at the end of the 3rd c. BC. the Zarubintsy culture was formed. The archaeological sources of the middle and upper Dnieper region of the late pre-Roman Iron and early Roman Iron Age with sites such as Zarubintsy, Babina Gora, Čaplin, Pilipenkova Gora, Pirogov or Remel have attracted the attention of a number of researchers from various European countries. Over the course of more than a century, such important publications on cultural conditions have emerged.Nevertheless, it must be clearly stated that key aspects of the Zarubintsy culture, such as origin and chronology, are not fully understood. This also explains the contradictory discussions in specialist literature.Since there is no synthetic study of the settlements of the Zarubintsy culture, I pursue the objective of this project, for the first time on a detailed and systematic basis, to evaluate these settlements. Accordingly, in the next three years I would like to write a monograph on Settlements in the central and upper Dnieper region during the recent late pre-Roman Iron and early Roman Iron Age.
