Final Report Abstract

The inventory L 79/Lippische Regierung (younger registry) is a valuable archival repository for Westphalian regional history as well as regional and supraregional urban history. With over 7,600 units of description, this inventory is no longer subject to protection periods. It includes archival records that were transferred to the newly established registry of the Lippe government between 1910 and 1912. The inventory function as a link between the older registry (inventory group L 77 A-C) from the 18th and 19th centuries and the inventory group L 80.1-22, which is particularly relevant for the first half of the 20th century until the end of Lippe's independence. The Lippe governments of the 19th and 20th centuries held a central role between the municipal authorities and the highest state authorities and were active in almost all political and administrative fields at the imperial and village levels. The L 79 inventory contain records with a broad thematic diversity and references to other inventory, both at higher and lower administrative levels. Originally, three sections with repertories (I, II, III) as well as a statistics registry (IV) and a military registry (V) were established. However, numerous older files were also included in the new registry, which were then not continued and, according to the inventory system, actually belong to the L 77 A inventory. Later, in the course of a reorganisation and simplification of the administration in 1924, the centrally managed registry was dissolved and replaced by departmental registries (inventory group L 80). The statistics registry, however, remained until the end of the state of Lippe, so that the duration of inventory L 79 in this sub-section extends until 1949. The L 79 collection is not only actively used by local historians and genealogists as well as for school competitions, but also for scientific research in particular. Numerous academic publications are based on this collection as a source. By linking the digitised material and making it available in "Archivportal NRW" and "Archivportal D", the availability and accessibility of the archive material is increased, enabling researchers, historians and interested persons to research more effectively and access valuable information.
