The project will focus on the solvothermal synthesis of 2D conjugated polymer frameworks (CPFs) with a skeleton of monomers covalently linked by π-conjugated C=C bonds. Such 2D CPFs would enable a promising class of semiconducting materials, and offer band gap engineering by varying the extent of π-conjugation in incorporated building blocks. In this respect, three methodologies based on the reversible and/or semi-reversible polycondensation reactions will be explored: Knoevenagel reaction, Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction and vinylation. Furthermore, understanding on bond formation efficiency, reaction mechanism, nucleation/ growth, chemical/electrochemical exfoliation as well as the electronic/geometric properties will be taken as key foci.
