This project will result in all 16 volumes of the edition "Die Verfolgung und Ermordung der europäischen Juden durch das nationalsozialistische Deutschland 1933–1945 (VEJ)" being translated into English and published. The VEJ/PMJ edition is the first collection of sources and documents on the persecution and murder of the European Jews between 1933 and 1945 that is representative, thematically comprehensive and edited in accordance with scholarly standards. The 16 volumes contain 5,280 documents, comprising around 12,800 pages, translated into English from 21 languages. The majority of the documents are published here for the first time. The English edition ‘The Persecution and Murder of the European Jews by Nazi Germany, 1933-1945’ (PMJ)’ represents an important step towards the internationalisation of Holocaust research. The edition is particularly important because it preserves knowledge about the events in countries whose history during the Holocaust has not yet been researched in depth and on which scarcely any sources have been published. The English edition reaches a broad international audience. It is aimed at academics and teachers as well as interested readers who have no specialist prior knowledge of the subject.
