The deformation and failure behavior of materials, joints and components are beyond others highly dependent on the strain rate. By means of the high-speed thermography system, reliable characteristic spatially resolved values for material characterization and simulation can be determined in high-speed tensile and puncture tests as well as in cyclic tests with relatively high frequencies. The main objective is the highly accurate determination of temperatures in tests with high-speed and high frequency. With the help of the proposed system, dynamic deformation and failure properties can be precisely characterized with regard to service safety and economic efficiency. The focus is on the better understanding of the process-structure-property-relationships, which enable an application-specific and property-enhanced manufacturing. In cooperation with the available high-speed testing system, the high-frequency fatigue testing system and the high-speed camera system, the high-speed thermography system will be used in ongoing and planned research projects, as well as in student works and practical courses.
