Disentangling pharmacologic and expectation effects in antidepressant discontinuation - a randomized, balanced open-hidden trial (A15)
Subject Area

Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 422744262
Project A15 will transfer the knowledge gained in researching placebo and nocebo effects in antidepressant treatments to the field of medication discontinuation. Building on the observation that dysfunctional expectation about discontinuation contributes to the occurrence of distressing symptoms and raises the risk of relapse after stopping antidepressant treatments, this project will conduct a randomized, balanced open-hidden discontinuation trial with patients taking SSRIs/SNRIs. The factors treatment and expectation will be varied to systematically assess their respective contribution to the development of discontinuation symptoms.
