Project Details
Single crystal growth of correlated intermetallic compounds with strong electron-lattice coupling (A03)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 422213477
The aim of this project is the single crystal growth and characterization of europium based intermetallic compounds in the AT2X2 family. The crystals will be supplied to groups at all nodes of the CRC/TRR for a thorough study of collective phenomena resulting from a strong coupling of electrons to phonons. The crystal growth of EuPd2Si2 will be optimized using the Czochralski technique from a levitating melt. Chemical substitutions will be used to reach the critical endpoint of the valence transition from Eu2+ to Eu3+. Furthermore, a systematic search for novel europium-based materials close to a transition into a collapsed tetragonal phase will be performed.
