Project Details
Dynamics of ion Coulomb crystals (A07)
Subject Area
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 274200144
Central goal of A07 is to study the intriguing quantum dynamics of ion Coulomb crystals, a self-organized long-range interacting system that constitutes a platform for future novel optical clocks (B03) and quantum simulators. This new project, which emerged from a theory/experiment collaboration initiated during the first funding period, focusses on energy transport through topological defects and the dynamics of vibron-Hubbard models in the peculiar geometry of our crystals. Together with A01, A03 and A04, A07 contributes to the DQ-mat goal of manipulating and characterizing long-range interacting quantum many-body systems and exploring their out-of-equilibrium dynamics.
