Project P4 "Planet Survey and Multi-planet Systems" is targeted at finding and analysing planetary signals in the radial velocity data and characterizing the orbital behaviour of these planets and the stability of multi-planet systems. In the previous round of DFG funding, related work has established and demonstrated a standard procedure for identifying periodic signals in the vast amount of CARMENES data generated with every observation cycle. This has been crucial for designing the observing cadence of the targets and distinguishing planetary signatures from stellar activity. It has led to the detection of a dozen of planets with CARMENES. The next funding round requires continuation of the established procedure for identifying and assessing periodic signals, comparing them with activity signatures, and making recommendations for the upcoming observations. With the longer survey time, we are expecting an increased number of detections of multi-planet systems. This requires dynamical modelling and determining the long term stability of such systems. The PIs of the proposal are Dr Priyanka Chaturvedi (TLS), who is currently funded by DFG CARMENES 1st round and Dr Martin Kürster (MPIA), who is a permanent staff. Both PIs are leading major Work Packages within the CARMENES consortium. The current proposal is for the self-funding for a postdoc position for P. Chaturvedi at TLS and for another postdoc to work at MPIA with M. Kürster, a position for which we already have a suitable candidate as well as alternative options.
