Synthesis and Characterization of Metal Oxide Supports with Anisotropic Shape (B01)

Subject Area Solid State and Surface Chemistry, Material Synthesis
Physical Chemistry of Solids and Surfaces, Material Characterisation
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 426888090

The project aims at the synthesis and characterization of metal oxide supports (CeO2, Al2O3, TiO2) with an-isotropic shape. This includes materials with well-faceted crystal surfaces (e.g. tetrahedra, octahedra, cubes) and those with high surface area (nanoplates, nanorods, nanotubes, hollow nanospheres) as well as the thermal, structural and chemical stability of composite catalysts (i.e. metal oxide support with deposited Pt/Pd) under transient conditions. Electron microscopy and electron spectroscopy (e.g. electron energy loss spectroscopy, tomography, pair-distribution analysis) will be used to characterize the 2D/3D morphology, the local oxidation state and the metal-support interaction.
