Chemical Imaging of Structured Catalysts using High Resolution X-ray Microscopy in 2D and 3D (C03)

Subject Area Physical Chemistry of Solids and Surfaces, Material Characterisation
Technical Chemistry
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 426888090

Project Description

This project addresses the structural and chemical complexity of technical emission control catalysts using multimodal and multiscale synchrotron-radiation-based hard X-ray imaging. Advanced ptychographic approaches allow high resolution nanoimaging at extended length scales. This is complemented by in situ / operando imaging both at the nanoscale on catalyst extracts, as well as the microscale on technical samples. “Spectral imaging” will extend tomography to include both physical and chemical information, including under dynamic reaction conditions. The rich data output can be used to assist simulation, modelling and kinetic studies.
