Final Report Abstract
The project focused on the Syrian oasis city of Palmyra and its social morphology during the Roman Imperial period (1st–3rd centuries AD). The starting point was the question of whether Palmyra was a city of the Greek polis type or shaped by tribal structures. Methodologically, the project primarily relied on the prosopographical analysis of the corpus of Palmyrene inscriptions. The project started with creating a prosopographical database, followed by a thorough evaluation in the form of a monograph.
