With the SOAPgold project, the Ludwigsburg University of Education (LUE) is building up sustainable structures to promote Open Access publications. The aim is to further establish and consolidate the cultural change in science communication, especially in the scientific publication system, towards Open Access formats, at LUE. As a university with a focus on school and extracurricular education, LUE is committed to its Open Access Policy to the obligation of science to make knowledge accessible and usable wherever possible. Open Access changes the established scientific publication system in a profound way, whereby the speed of change differs significantly in different disciplines and it involves a shift in the cost burden from the readership to the researchers (Wissenschaftsrat 2020, 15). Our SOAPgold project meets these challenges with two key measures: 1) Establish and further develop a support, consulting and information service for researchers from all disciplines at the LUE, that is based on the needs of the different target groups. The service aims at winning them for the idea of Open Access; 2) Establish a publication fund to promote Gold Open Access publications in order to remove financial obstacles in the use of Open Access. By doing so, LUE creates framework conditions to promote Open Access publications and to anchor the principle of Open Access in the scientific self-concept of their researchers.
