Effect of multiple stressors on the microbial ecosystem functions DOC degradation and biomass recycling in water and sediment (A02)

A02 will elucidate the effects of multiple stressors on microbial DOC degradation and biomass recy-cling. Natural dynamics of these two processes will be monitored in two lotic systems for a period of two years. Acute and long-term effects of multiple stressors on microbial DOC degradation and biomass recycling will be studied at microcosm and mesocosm scales. DOC degradation will be quantified with Reverse Stable Isotope Labelling (RIL). Flow cytometry will be applied for absolute quantification of different microorganisms, and 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing for determin-ing the composition of bacterial communities.
