To enhance the resource and energy efficiencies in the building sector a drastic reduction of the utilized construction material is re-quired. The resulting lightweight buildings exhibit an increased vulnerability to thermal variations, that is, the room temperature is more sensitive to outer and inner effects. Thus, a technical component is necessary to compensate the reduced thermal storage capacity without adding significant mass to the building. Furthermore, the component should allow for active cooling of the building. Against this background, the objective of this project is to develop and test an adaptive, facade-integrated adsorption system for thermal manage-ment of lightweight buildings with a focus on the cooling application. To achieve an adequate facade element, both requirements from building physics as well as aspects of architecture are considered.
