Tübingen University Library owns about 1,900 oriental manuscripts, most of which came to the University Library as collections in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Ottoman-Turkish stock includes 287 volumes, with origins dating back to the 15th and 16th century. According to current knowledge, it is the fourth largest collection of Ottoman-Turkish manuscripts in Germany, after the collections in Berlin, Munich and Leipzig. The aim of the project is to index all 287 manuscripts in the database Verzeichnis der Orientalischen Handschriften in Deutschland (VOHD) according to the cataloguing standards of this project and to digitise 255 manuscripts where this is possible from a conservation and technical point of view. Together with 6 already digitally available manuscripts, 261 manuscripts with current bibliographic and structural data will be freely available. Great part of the manuscripts contain annotations and traces of use, which also provide source material for the most recent branches of research in Islamic Studies in the fields of book culture, knowledge transfer and text circulation.
