The project "machine-readable description and record of the German-language manuscripts of the Bavarian State Library" comprises several sub-projects. In a first subproject, the in-depth-cataloguing of the medieval German manuscripts of the Bavarian State Library, one of the most important funds of German-language manuscripts worldwide, is to be brought to completion with 139 descriptions for the tenth and final volume of the manuscripts catalogue (Volume 10: Medieval Manuscripts from Cgm 7001-9500). In two other sub-projects, the focus is on the development of adequate models for an object-oriented description of modern manuscripts. First, a differentiated descriptive model with a set of descriptive levels for different types of modern manuscripts is to be developed on the basis of a wide selection of modern manuscripts from the fund Cgm of the BSB. This model will be put to practice in a further sub-project, which will comprise 200 descriptions in the form of an inventory for modern manuscripts, 45 in-depth descriptions, approximating the standards of medieval manuscripts, and 70 descriptions according to the medium range of the DFG guidelines for modern manuscripts taking into account further, material-specific aspects.
