Cosmology without assuming a cosmology: data analysis in the Euclid era

Subject Area Astrophysics and Astronomy
Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Fields
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 456622116

The Euclid satellite, to be launched in 2022, will usher soon a new era of abundant cosmological data. This is the time to invest in preparing the data analysis and to harvest the science return of the mission. In this project, I propose to contribute to the analysis of Euclid data in a novel way, that is, focusing on observables that can be measured without assuming a cosmological model. In previous work, I identified such observables at the background and perturbation level (both linear and non-linear), and explored the methodology for their measurements. Euclid, along with other present and future datasets, offers now the exciting possibility to carry out such measures and to answer in a model-independent way questions like the value of the spatial curvature or the range of validity of Einstein's gravitation. This project will complement and reinforce Euclid standard data analysis and give the opportunity to young collaborators to be part of one of the most important scientific enterprise of the coming decade.
