Project Details
Primary aldosteronism – genetics, pathophysiology and role in hypertensive kidney disease (P08)
Subject Area
Nephrology
Term
from 2021 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 431984000
P8 will study the impact of primary aldosteronism on the development of chronic kidney disease. We will search for novel familial hyperaldosteronism candidate genes in an established patient cohort and dissect pathogenic mechanisms using a combination of cell culture and mouse models. P8 will investigate whether hypertension or the associated inflammation trigger kidney disease in the presence of genetic risk variants. Lastly, we will use electrophysiology to characterize the functional consequences of variants in ion channel genes associated with hypertension in the general population.
