Wind and turbulence models for wind turbines at high altitudes including the transition Prandtl to Ekman layer (A01)

Subject Area Statistical Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Complex Systems, Soft and Fluid Matter, Biological Physics
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 434502799

In the subproject A01, the transition of the turbulent and near-ground Prandtl layer into the more laminar Ekman layer, which has been insufficiently investigated so far, will be studied. This will be based on free field measurements, numerical simulations and wind tunnel measurements. A realistic (reduced) modelling of wind fields, which represents both the turbulent and the laminar properties of both layers, is crucial for a determination of aerodynamic impacts on very large future offshore wind turbines. It also allows capturing new interactions between wind and turbines.
