Project Details
Observing and modelling the inflow conditions of megastructure turbines in wind farms: dynamics of the fractal interface between laminar and turbulent flow regions (A01)
Subject Area
Statistical Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Complex Systems, Soft and Fluid Matter, Biological Physics
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 434502799
In subproject A01 the research of the first funding period shall be extended towards more detailed knowledge about structure and dynamics of the inflow situation at offshore wind turbines in large heights. Firstly, the dynamic evolution of the turbulent-non-turbulent interface (TNTI) in the atmosphere shall be experimentally investigated and modelled by a directed percolation approach. Secondly, the interaction of these laminar-turbulent inflow conditions with turbines shall be investigated in terms of wake dynamics and loads. Also here, wind tunnel experiments shall be conducted, leading to new modelling approaches based on experimental data.
