Multi-Axial Test System for Real-Time Hybrid Simulations

The proposed "multi-axial test system for real-time hybrid simulations" consists of three servo-hydraulic actuators with their equipment and further hardware components. The test system will be installed in a laboratory of the institute. With the test system, multi-axial loading events will be simulated on structures for the investigation of their dynamic behaviour. Research focus will be on the real-time hybrid simulation technique. This method subdivides structures into two substructures: Experimental and numerical substructures. Actuators physically test the experimental substructure. Simultaneously, a high performance computer (Target-PC) simulates the numerical substructure. The data involving interaction forces and displacements is exchanged between the computer and the test rig in real-time. By exact representation of the dynamic loads and interaction effects, the method achieves a higher accuracy compared to the common pseudo-dynamic approaches. For the multi-axial testing of structures, the actuators of the proposed test system will be attached to a reaction wall of the laboratory. Further loading configurations will be realised by a combined operation of the test systems with the existing uniaxial shaking table of the institute. For this purpose, the shaking table will be enhanced by a further testing direction with the proposed actuators. Thus, the operation capacity of the shaking will be enhanced significantly. Furthermore, both on the reaction wall and on the shaking table, combined simulations can be conducted in real-time.
