Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 443478861
The proposed project will be carried out in the context of the Mu3e experiment currently under construction at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland. Our group will work on the following two tasks: Optimization of MUPIX11 sensor parameters, commissioning and operation: This project part aims for optimizing the performance of the MUPIX11 sensor chips concerning particle detection efficiency, signal to noise ratio, time resolution and power consumption. R&D of the sensors for the Phase II: The Phase II pixel detector must provide a timing resolution of about 1 ns per particle hit. Furthermore, the granularity of the innermost pixel layer has to be increased to improve the vertex resolution. The KIT group will work on the development of an improved MUPIX sensor which fulfils these specifications. The R&D activities would also comprise the development of the ultra fast monolithic sensor for the new tracking layer.
