IT infrastructur for Computational Molecular Medicine

Subject Area Medicine
Term Funded in 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 461264291

With the newly created Chair of Computational Molecular Medicine, which is headed by Prof. Julien Gagneur, a new IT infrastructure must also be established. This new IT infrastructure is necessary to enable the chair's research in the field of genomics and diagnostics of rare Mendelian diseases as well as deep-learning-based modelling of regulatory processes at the highest level. The planned data storage system with a capacity of 800Tb will enable the simultaneous storage and analysis of large next-generation sequencing-based reference data sets with local research data sets. To provide simultaneously 20-30 researchers with sufficient computing power for the analysis of these 800Tb data, a computing cluster with 700 CPUs is planned. The integrated GPUs will pave the way for training new and more complex models. These models can then be used to discover new gene-disease associations, thereby advancing and improving research on rare Mendelian diseases.
