Multifunctional Microscope for Spinning Disk, TIRF, STORM and SRRF Acquisition

Subject Area Microbiology, Virology and Immunology
Term Funded in 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 462212046

The device applied for is a high-resolution microscope that combines various recording modes / microscopy techniques in one device, which in part can be used in parallel. It is primarily intended to enable infectious researchers at Münster University to perform microscopy with samples of risk group 2 pathogenic agents to address a wide variety of issues, particularly in living cells. These include total internal reflection microscopy (TIRF) for recordings on the plasma membrane, confocal spinning disk microscopy for rapid live cell recordings on cells and organoids, as well as so-called super resolution techniques such as stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM) and super resolution radial fluctuations (SRRF) to overcome the Abbe limits. The aim is to enable the Münster Imaging Network and, in particular, the Institute of Cellular Virology to deal with microscopic questions in infectiology using state-of-the-art methods in living cells.
