The Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW) of Leibniz University Hannover is applying for the precision milling center for research of novel and combined production of optical components. The aim is to increase the precision and productivity of milling processes by integrated process control and to use the generated data for modelling and estimating the application behaviour. The large-scale equipment will be used within the Cluster of Excellence PhoenixD and installed in the upcoming research facility “House of Optics”. Here, interdisciplinary novel production methods, such as additive manufacturing of glass will be combined with established production methods. Milling is an important established production method. After a machine specification analysis, the selection was made in favour of the precision milling machine type Micro HD from Kern Microtechnik.
