Four channel console and sample changer for a 600 MHz NMR spectrometer

Subject Area Analytical Chemistry
Term Funded in 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 464848251

The current electronic console of the 600 MHz spectrometer hosted by the RUBiospek|NMR service department in the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Ruhr University Bochum has been in use since 1998. However, commercial support for this technology has been discontinued. Therefore, we request a new four-channel NMR replacement console, which will allow for the recording of all modern NMR experiments, such as triple resonance spectra with deuterium decoupling and NUS experiments, for example. These will enable structural, dynamic, and functional studies of medically-relevant proteins and their complexes, such as small GTPase or SARAH domains of RASSF proteins, as well as metal-peptide bioconjugates like Octreotat or Enkephalin, for instance. In addition, we hereby request a temperature-controlled sample changer for the 600 MHz spectrometer. This sample changer would be extremely beneficial for high-throughput research projects, such as NanoComBac. In this currently funded consortium, novel, resistance-breaking antibiotics against infectious diseases, e.g. tuberculosis, caused by gram-negative bacteria shall be developed in a joint effort. The NanoComBac concept differs fundamentally from previous approaches, as a dual or even triple attack strategy is now chosen, in which antibacterial natural products or their analogues are linked with antibacterial nanocarrier molecules.
