The book deals with metaphors of fertility that refer to the organic-biological phenomena of fertilization and production, growth and proliferation. These metaphors are used to put cultural and literary processes of creation into words, but they also shape the way we think about the production of thoughts, texts and discourses. The contributions of the anthology document and interpret narrative and poetic reflections of such phantasms of (pro-)creation in texts of the 16th and 17th centuries, thus contributing in an innovative way to early modern and baroque literary research.
