Mechanisms of implant failure during aseptic loosening of hip endoprostheses (A02)

Subject Area Orthopaedics, Traumatology, Reconstructive Surgery
Term since 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 426335750

As basis for the development of safety-integrated implants, the subproject A02 aims to elucidate mechanisms of aseptic implant loosening, one of the most common causes of hip prosthesis failure. Cell-based mechanisms will be investigated in two patient cohorts: new implantations and revision surgery. Disease-associated expression and secretory profiles will provide information of the underlying pathomechanisms, determine cell types and will allow the development of advanced detection systems of aseptic implant loosening. Cell culture experiments from patient-derived cells will elucidate the effects of wear particles on cellular functions.
