Subproject A04 increases the reliability of modular hip endoprosthesis junctions through development of an innovative, durable, and convertible implant by transferring proven interface designs from mechanical engineering to implant technology. The reduced fatigue behavior of the novel junction will be validated under realistic load conditions and analyzed as a function of surface and subsurface properties, as well as manufacturing tolerances. In addition, an innovative modular implant system for proximal femur fractures will be developed that facilitates direct conversion from an osteosynthesis device to a total hip endoprosthesis.
