The aim of this subproject is to develop a novel experimental platform for the characterization of cell growth and cell type identification on cochlear implant electrodes, as well as for the prediction of electrode position using impedance spectroscopy. Furthermore, whether cellular response to electric fields of varying strength and frequency can be exploited for targeted cell removal, will be investigated. For this purpose, iterative in vitro models and finite element method (FEM) simulations will be performed. The results will be validated in animal models and human temporal bone to support clinical translation.
