Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 426335750
The aim of subproject B06 is to bring detection and therapy systems via biological carriers to pathological areas, such as infected implant interfaces. Autologous or allogenic blood cells with an affinity for inflammation are used as carriers, which migrate to the site of infection guided by natural chemokine and cytokine gradients. These cells are loaded with detection and therapy systems, e.g., gadolinium particles for detection by magnetic resonance imaging and drug-loaded nanoparticles. Active substance release is induced, e.g. by destruction of the cells at sites of infection or by application of physical methods (e.g., magnetic hyperthermia).
