Project Details
Sexual Human Categorization and Disability. The Construction of ‘Disabled Sexuality’ and Sexual (Dis-)Ability (A03)
Subject Area
Empirical Social Research
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 442261292
The project examines sex education and services of sexual assistance and surrogate partnership for people with disabilities. Using ethnographic methods and a cultural studies approach to sex research, it seeks to understand how these services construct ‘sexual disability’ and ‘disabled sexuality’ as a specific kind of (dis-)ability, and how they incorporate it into bodies and individuals. Sexual education and assistance services are analysed as a field of sexual human categorization in which the inclusion of people with disabilities and the boundaries of the (un-)natural or (ab-)normal are negotiated through practices and discourses.
