Project Details
Cognitive Human Categorization II: The influence of individual beliefs on the ebb and flow of cognitive differentiations (D01 (ehem.B01))
Subject Area
Social Psychology, Industrial and Organisational Psychology
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 442261292
The aim of the sub-project is to gain a deeper understanding of how individuals form cognitive human differentiations. The central thesis is that individual beliefs act as cognitive filters through which social information is perceived and processed. Conceptually, the focus of inquiry will be whether beliefs about the relevance, essentialization and hierarchization can be generalized across human differentiations or whether specific relationships exist. Furthermore, various experimental paradigms will be used to empirically trace how these beliefs influence perception and how they are reflected in cognitive categorizations.
