In the second funding period we developed a multi-timescale model of the vesicle cycle and revealed how vesicle recovery operates across timescales, ranging from 100ms to several minutes, resulting effectively in power-law-shaped depression (PLD). We will now address three key questions: (1) How does PLD in the vesicle cycle interact with other physiological factors? (2) How are the relative strengths of depression and enhancement adapted to past activity? (3) What are the implications of vesicle recovery and release enhancement on the collective dynamics of neural populations?
