Radical Generation with Semiquinoid Flavin Catalysts and their Ring-Contracted Analogues (B07)
Subject Area
Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 444632635
Reductive flavin photocatalysis was at the center of project B07 in the first funding period. The proposed new work packages for the next phase expand the catalytic repertoire of flavins in two orthogonal areas of activity. Assemblies with excited semiquinones will be studied as reductants for radical-radical coupling reactions. This strategy relies on the stabilized nature of semiquinones derived from N-substituted flavins. On the other hand, ring-contracted truncated flavins will serve as sensitization catalysts on the basis of their increased triplet energy. Higher excited Tn states are studied in photocatalysis through assembly control.
