It is intended to (1) further develop the theory of the GW impact on tracer transport and turbulent mixing, (2) investigate their effect on tracer transport and mixing in ICON/MS-GWaM, (3) investigate how well the operational TKE-based turbulence scheme in ICON and a new two-energies turbulence scheme represent turbulence statistics in the UTLS region, and (4) investigate the variation of the representation of the shear layer and the associated mixing from kilometer-scale simulations to the resolution of reanalysis data.
