Specialised Information Service Asia (FID Asia) – Chinese language and culture region, Japan, Korea, Central Asia (Mongolia and Central Asian regions in the People's Republic of China), Southeast Asia

Subject Area Asian Studies
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 471539089

The aim of the project is the trustworthy maintenance and further development of an informational service infrastructure for the Asia-related research community in Germany. It will continue at the same quantitative and qualitative level as in previous years and coordinate its services with the needs of the specialist disciplines. In addition to the region-specific provision of materials, the interdisciplinary informational infrastructure on and about Asia (Chinese language and cultural area, Japan, Korea, Mongolia and Central Asian regions of China, Southeast Asia) will be continued at an excellent level. The project focusses on the core elements of the FID Asia: information supply (including data), information dissemination, information assurance as well as collaboration and communication. It ensures the continued operation of the FID Asia and defines the operational costs necessary to supply the Asia-related and transdisciplinary or transregional scientific community in Germany with information services according to their specialised needs and for cutting-edge research. The FID Asia perceives "Collections as Data" and organises its activities and digital services accordingly. The concentration on the core elements is necessary, because of the size and scope of the regional focal points catered to by the FID Asia and in consideration of the regularly evaluated heterogeneous requirements voiced by members of the research community of the respective region. With the services in the context of information provision on the one hand and the technical infrastructural toolbox on the other, which are required and successfully utilised in the FID as well as in satellite projects, the current application aims to consolidate what has been achieved under deteriorating economic and political conditions in conjunction with national (in the SBB, FID system, NFDI and library scene) and international network partners.
