In part project A3, the thermodynamics of the alloying system of Fe-Mn-Al-C (and furthermore Si, V, Nb, Ti, N, Cr and Ni) are described using the CALPHAD method. Of special interest is the modelling of the k phase in austenitic steels, as well as the ferritic- austenitic phase boundary in multiphase, medium Mn steels. Extending beyond the purely thermodynamic questions, the calculation of stacking fault energies and martensite start temperatures, as well as diffusion calculations for the austenite formation in medium Mn steels are topics of the upcoming periode.
