Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

An Ion Trap Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer (ITCIMS) was developed and integrated into the Falcon and HALO research aircraft. The measurement capabilities of the ITCIMS were extended in the phase 2 of the project covering now the trace species PAN, PPN, HNO3, SO2, H2SO4. The ITCIMS was deployed during 3 Falcon and 3 HALO campaigns including SHIVA, ACCESS, DEEPWAVE (Falcon) and ESMVal/TACTS, ACRIDICON, OMO (HALO). The Falcon campaigns were performed in order to make use of the instrument in the time period until HALO is operational for scientific missions. One main focus of these Falcon and HALO campaigns was long-range transport and regional/global impact of growing emissions (SO2, reactive nitrogen) from East Asia. Also, ITCIMS data obtained during the phase1 of the project at ground facilities and during Falcon campaigns were further analysed and published. This included airborne measurements on the long-range transport of PAN and SO2 from biomass burning sources in Siberia and Africa, ground-based measurements of the H2SO4 diurnal variation at the mountain station Schneefernerhaus, and H2SO4 emissions of heavy duty truck diesel engines.
