Project Details
Self-resistance mechanisms of actinomycetes producing antibiotics targeting peptidoglycan biosynthesis (A03)
Subject Area
Parasitology and Biology of Tropical Infectious Disease Pathogens
Term
from 2007 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 32152271
Producers of glycopeptides and lantibiotics have developed so far unknown mechanisms by which they protect their cell envelope against their own products. In A3, we will investigate the alternative metabolic pathways that are used to synthesize glycopeptide resistant peptidoglycan precursors and which mediate resistance to the lantibiotic NAI-107. In particular, we will determine the relevance of unusual peptidoglycan cross-linking, which are catalyzed by L,D-transpeptidases, for the resistance.
