Open Access Publication Funding / 2022-2024 / Technische Universität Dortmund

Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 491021492

Since the adoption of its Open Access Declaration on 01.04.2015, the Technische Universität (TU) Dortmund has been committed to promoting open access publishing. In so doing TU Dortmund aims to increase the visibility of the research results of its members. In addition to infrastructural offers, TU Dortmund also supports its scientists financially. TU Dortmund is convinced that only content (quality) criteria should be applied in the choice of publication organs. However, in many disciplines hybrid journals are still those with the highest reputation. Therefore, TU Dortmund University considers transformation contracts as transitional solutions to be unavoidable. The coordination of all open access (OA) activities is anchored in the University Library (UB) because, on the one hand, the overview of discount conditions and transformation contracts with OA components is available here and, on the other hand, memberships and vouchers are already managed centrally. This enables a resource-saving use of funds and an efficient invoice processing. In recent years, processes have been developed and optimized for this purpose. Especially with the participation in transformation contracts, the processes have changed. Therefore, during the introduction of the new library system, special attention will be paid to its possibilities and limitations for OA invoice processing, and this system will be placed in relation to possible other tools that facilitate monitoring. At the same time, the holistic consulting services on all aspects of OA that have been established in recent years are being continuously evaluated and adapted to the needs of authors. All activities are located in the business unit "Digital Publishing and Information Literacy", which works very closely with the Department of E-Media and Data Management at the UB. Since the UB has received requests for funding monographs in Open Access in recent years, TU Dortmund would also like to set up a fund for monographs for the first time and is therefore also applying for funding for this form of publication.
