The aim of the application by Museum für Naturkunde (MfN) for the funding years 2022-2024 is to further develop the technical-administrative support of the Open Access transformation by changing the mode of financing publication costs to comprehensive publication-based accounting in order to be able to determine and control the number and costs of publications as automatically and transparently as possible in a standardised manner and to make them available in a machine-readable form. The creation of an in-house publication fund and a publication cost guideline is being sought. The subsidisation of open access costs with a further increase in the open access share of MfN publications through participation in the DEAL project and a Taylor & Francis Publish and Read contract is being sought. Further participation in transformation contracts is being explored on an ongoing basis. In addition, the MfN would like to continue to contribute to open access publishing for scientists worldwide by publishing its own open access journals (in the Gold or Diamond model). The cooperation of all administrative departments (financial controlling/budget management, financial accounting, purchasing department, contract management, tax law, third-party funding) and other stakeholders is considered necessary and strongly advocated by those involved. Science management, ombudspersons and data protection should be involved. Guidelines on Open Access, Open Data and Open Science should be jointly evaluated and/or implemented and lived.
