As a research-intensive, internationally oriented comprehensive university, Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) Mainz, together with JGU University Medicine, supports the science policy goal of unrestricted access to scientific information. In recent years, it has taken numerous measures to promote open access (OA) and to support the necessary transformation of the publication market. Building on this preparatory work, the project aims to further develop the funding opportunities and financing structures available at JGU and UM, to establish administrative structures for the complete monitoring of OA publication volumes and the publication costs incurred in the process, and to provide the technical infrastructure required for this project. The implementation will be accompanied by a variety of knowledge transfer measures and the expansion of the already established consulting services on various OA models, the CC-BY licensing model, and predatory publishing. The project is also part of a medium-term strategy to determine the total publication volume at JGU and UM, including revenues from third-party funding.
