TU Braunschweig aims to further develop and centralize existing structures to fund publications with this project. Various working packages will foster strategic development of Open Science with its respective aspects of Open Access and Open Data. In this way, the TU Braunschweig contributes to the intended Open Access transformation of scientific publishing.Combining two separate infrastructures developed by TU Braunschweig, the publication data management system and a database-driven collection of application and billing details, guarantee a functional overall architecture for central monitoring. In the future, the monitoring will serve to manage our various Open Access funds and the different publication formats in order to control Open Access publication costs. Hence a comprehensive cost transparency will be established. We are striving to integrate additional systems supporting centralized monitoring. By simplifying the workflows for publications funding we achieve three improvements at a time: increasing efficiency in invoice processing, expanding of central cost absorption, and improving allocation of publications to research projects. To ensure the fair distribution of funding budget, additional criteria will be developed, which will support the greatest possible degree of freedom in using licenses granted and enforce an appropriate price cap for Open Access publications. We guarantee a DFG-first strategy for all publication costs, APC as well as BPC. Upon approval of our application and anticipating the prospective second DFG-funding period we will fund APC arisen from DFG-funded projects to a maximum of 1,400 EUR already at this stage. Respective BPC will be funded with a maximum of 5,000 EUR. Additional costs in both cases may be covered by TU Braunschweig depending on distinct criteria. The University Library will boost consulting activities as well as targeted public relations appropriate to our focus groups. Taking up on this, formats tailoring DFG projects will be developed. The focus here is on increasing awareness and the proper usage of ORCID and free licenses as well as the rights retention for researchers regarding Open Access. Aims and activities serve to expand already established, sustainable Open Access infrastructures, increase efficiency, broaden awareness and acceptance of Open Access within all the different focus groups of TU Braunschweig.
