Behavioral determinants of inequalities in the labor market (A05)

Subject Area Economic Policy, Applied Economics
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 326731373

We investigate the emergence, persistence, and mitigation of labor market inequality, with a focus on disparities that arise during labor market matching and within the workplace. First, we analyze how workers and firms interact during the matching process and how these interactions contribute to unequal employment outcomes. Second, we examine the sources of workplace inequality, including differences in job conditions, pay structures, and career advancement opportunities—both between and within firms. We combine the use of large-scale administrative data with new survey measures and apply a variety of empirical methods, including field experiments, quasi-experimental approaches, and structural estimation techniques. Our research aims to inform the design of policies that promote equality of opportunity in the labor market.
