Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 492891937
This project aims at an historical-critical analysis of the biblical narrative of conquest and settlement found in the book of Joshua which is informed by analytical categories developed in postcolonial theory. The project does not aim at a postcolonial relecture of the book in the fashion of contextual theologies (a worthwhile enterprise to be sure). Rather, it seeks to enrich the scope and method of historical criticism by those postcolonial perspectives which allow to be fruitfully integrated into an historical-critical approach. The work program to be gained will be applied to the book of Joshua in its entirety, as opposed to the present state of research in which only a few isolated episodes are considered.
