The Neuro-aCSis program at the Medical Faculty of the University of Bonn fosters a new generation of clinician scientists dedicated to translational neuroscience. It also acknowledges and promotes the growing influence of neuroscience on other health-relevant research areas, such as immunology, metabolic diseases, and age-related degeneration. The thematic focus is "the role of systemic, external, and environmental influences on neurological and psychiatric disorders and their use in the prediction, diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of these conditions". A particular emphasis is placed on promoting interdisciplinary research by facilitating collaborations between training clinics and host research institutions. The qualification program is designed to comprehensively prepare participants for a career as independent researchers. It includes workshop participations, peer-to-peer exchange as well as individual mentoring with experienced scientists. A particular focus is placed on targeted support for female clinician scientists to counteract the underrepresentation of this group in higher clinical and scientific positions within the medical field. The aim is to enable a sustainable scientific career, achieving target positions, and drive the development of innovative therapies.
